Welcome Back
Did you know the theme from "Welcome Back Kotter" was written and sung by the guy from the Lovin' Spoonful? That blew my mind when I was 12!
And the guy who wrote the "Mary Tyler Moore" theme also wrote "I Fought The Law".

From the phone booth across the hall
Forgot to post this song last week.
Any 1976 rundown is incomplete without it.

Just trying to tell a vision
I saw Television on their early 90s reunion tour and was mindblown by their performance of this song, which I only recognized because Siouxsie & The Banshees covered it.
It was their debut two-sided single (first part on the topside and second part on the flipside, just like "American Pie"), but the original studio version wasn't commercially available until the second Cd reissue of Marquee Moon.

Tonight there's gonna be trouble
Interesting to see the UK charts from 35 years ago this month, but Phil Lynott & Co. still look like the coolest dudes in the room.

Fool To Cry
More '76. Black and Blue is uneven and unnecessary as Rolling Stones albums go, but I've always liked this song.

Everyone's in love with you
What can I say about a Beach Boys album where Mike Love wrote the best song?
Not much. Still singing that same song.

Forming in a straight line
Who expected this song to be a stadium anthem 35 years after its release?

Like waves crashing on the beach
My first song from 1976 is the last song from Tom Petty's debut,
which has been in the news recently.
This sounds like a Byrds song because TP wrote it for Roger McGuinn, who recorded it around the same time on his solo album Thunderbyrd..

Always 1976
Back to doing "Songs From The Year X" in July.
This month it's 1976, which this song isn't from, but is about.
